The Mets and Padres took 2-1 series leads and are one win away from reaching the NLCS
Tuesday was all about the National League, featuring Game 3s in both NL Division Series.
The Mets secured a victory over the Phillies in the early game in New York, while the Padres narrowly defeated the Dodgers in the much-anticipated Southern California showdown.
All eight teams still vying for the championship will be in action on Wednesday, promising an exciting day of baseball across the nation.
Padres 6, Dodgers 5
While not as intense as their previous encounter, the San Diego Padres secured a second consecutive victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday.
The Padres held off the Dodgers to win 6-5 in Game 3 of their NLDS series at Petco Park. With this win, the Padres now lead the series 2-1 and are just one win away from advancing to the NLCS for the second time in three seasons.
After Mookie Betts kicked off the game with a redemption home run against Jurickson Profar, the Padres seemed poised to take control in the second inning, scoring six runs, highlighted by a two-run homer from Fernando Tatis and several defensive errors by the Dodgers. However, the Dodgers quickly responded in the next half-inning with a grand slam from Teoscar Hernandez, keeping the game competitive.
The pace of the game picked up after that initial flurry, but the Padres managed to maintain their lead and secured a narrow one-run victory. They will return to Petco Park on Wednesday for Game 4, where they have the opportunity to close out the series at home.
Mets 7, Phillies 2
The New York Mets are now just one victory away from the NLCS.
Sean Manaea delivered an impressive performance, pitching seven innings and allowing only one run, while the Mets took advantage of key opportunities with two outs and the bases loaded to secure a 7-2 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday. With this victory, the Mets have seized a 2-1 lead in the NLDS and will have a chance to clinch the series at home on Wednesday.
The victory marks a remarkable turnaround for the Mets, who seemed to be out of the playoff race at midseason and needed a win on the final day of the regular season to clinch their playoff spot.
The Phillies, on the other hand, find themselves in a tough position, needing to win two consecutive games to avoid further playoff disappointment in a postseason many expected would be theirs for the taking.
