"Verizon Announces Service Restoration After Widespread Outages"

Verizon announced on Monday that its engineers have "fully restored" service following a widespread outage that impacted thousands of users.

"Verizon engineers have fully restored today’s network disruption that impacted some customers. Service has returned to normal levels," Verizon spokesperson Ilya Hemlin said in a statement. "If you are still experiencing issues, we recommend restarting your device. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience."

Earlier in the day, more than 100,000 Verizon users reported outages, according to data from Downdetector. The outages were concentrated in several areas, including Tampa, Fla., Atlanta, and New York City. By Monday evening, reports of outages had dropped to just over 2,900.

Some users reported seeing "SOS" on their phones, indicating a loss of cellular service.

Verizon was not the only provider affected by disruptions. Over 1,000 AT&T users also reported outages on Downdetector. However, AT&T clarified that the issue was linked to a problem with another carrier.

"Another carrier is experiencing a network issue that may be preventing our customers from calling their customers," said AT&T spokesperson Jim Kimberly in an earlier statement.
